Many of you know how much I enjoy watching Jon and Kate plus 8. I was really looking forward to the new series this past May. But as many of you know Jon and Kate have been having a lot of problems and on June 22ND they announced on national television that they will be getting a divorce. You are probably thinking why do I care and why am I blogging about this.
Well...........
For some strange reason this has bothered me probably more then it should. The more I think about it all the more it frustrates me. I think there are a couple of things that bother me the most.
1. What about the children. They keep saying this is what is best for the children. I would think working on their marriage and staying together is what would be best for their children.
2. What about their faith in Christ. They profess to be Christians and I have not seen or heard Christ at all in this whole thing. The Bible makes it very clear how he feels about divorce.
“Therefore what God has joined together, let man not separate" (Mk. 10:9).
“To the married I give this command (not I, but the Lord): A wife must not separate from her husband. But if she does, she must remain unmarried or else be reconciled to her husband. And a husband must not divorce his wife” (1 Cor. 7:10-12).
“Are you married? Do not seek a divorce” (1 Cor. 7:27).

3 people were kind enough to respond:
I agree. Divorces are so easy to get these days that some people use it like it's "just a break up" and not something more serious like breaking up a family.
Really, we should pray for them and ask God to have His will and soften their hearts so that they would do what He wants. After all, He's in control.
I agree with most of what you are feeling. I and my hubby have both been very bothered by this, and we're not even regular watchers. (I think the last time I watched faithfully was when little Aaden got his glasses. Isn't he such a doll-baby?!)
We are mostly saddened by it all. I feel as if the enemy has attempted to take ground that is not his. But I also feel that we aren't there everyday and we don't know all the insider information. Given that, the best that we can do is pray for them all. And pray that someone who really knows them and really loves them is willing to step in and speak up.
I am inordinately pleased that TLC is giving the show a hiatus. I hope that they make wise use of the time and re-consider their course of action without the press of the media all over them.
Very good points. I totally agree. I haven't seen much of the show but when I was in the hospital with Asher they were having some sort of a Jon and Kate marathon and I saw a lot of the episodes. I thought it was really cute but was bothered by the way Kate treated Jon even then. I don't expect her to be perfect of course but she was pretty bossy and demeaning of him. Not much submission going on there.
Appreciate the thoughts.
